Easter Measter

You know how we "regular" people sort of like to hang out with others, heck even sort of need that socialization? Well, I'm here to tell you that people with schizophrenia are no less needy. Sure, they come across as not needing others, but when it comes down to it, I think they need that interaction even more. Safe interaction, with people that they trust... family.

And here is where I admit that I have screwed up. We had everyone over to the house for Easter and Schizo-boy dutifully came out of his safe room to attempt to socialize. Unfortunately, I got caught up visiting with my grand daughter and failed to inject the usual pointed questions about sports that normally allows Schizo-boy to engage in a some what broken, but pseudo-normal conversation with his brother.

Of course, as soon as he had taken his last bite of Easter luncheon, schizo-boy just quietly slunked off to his bedroom to hide for the rest of the afternoon. After all, his brothers were not talking to him nor interacting with him in any way, shape, or form. If I developed Schizophrenia and as a result became an extremely introverted person, hell, I would just quietly leave the room as well.

How sad is that!? Seriously.

What is the Key?

Schizo-boy's cracks are starting to run together and become even bigger. The medicine that he is taking is only slowing that process down, I think. It's like before he went on meds, except in V E R Y slow motion.

I almost believe that his mind needs that definitive low of a crash to reset itself and I'm afraid that the medicine is not allowing that to happen.

The questions are; Even though his mind is fractured, is it strong enough to handle the slower crash? Are WE strong enough to handle it? I guess we have to be since he has no one else...

Beer, Bubbles, and Subliminal Messaging

A few weeks ago, I noticed that Schizo-boy was starting to pull away from me and conversely start sticking to his mom like glue. He was also having a harder time creating sentences that made sense and his paranoia was starting to come back.

Then I noticed a post on a social media site that we have in common where he was VERY depressed.

I asked him via SMS if he thought that his meds were working okay for him? He spilled the beans and clued me in to what was going on... his meds are definitely not right, strong enough, or something. I suggested that if he was not happy with the results of the medicine that he was currently taking, he should talk with Dr. Psyche. He took my advice and the doc cranked up the dosage level on his meds.

That was a little too late as we could see the cracks getting deeper. :-( But, I think that he will not have a full blown psychotic break thanks to the higher dosage. Still, there are those pesky cracks.

Here are two perfect examples of the cracks;

1) We took him with us to dinner with a neighbor to a pizza & beer joint. I noticed after awhile that he wasn't drinking his beer. Eventually, he asked the waitress to change it out for a coke because "there's something wrong with the carbonation and it must be a bad beer." He repeated this very thing the next evening when we all went to a restaurant to celebrate his brother's birthday... only this time it was with Sprite.

2) He told his mom today that he fell asleep while listening to his mp3 player last night. He wound up sleeping through an entire album. When he woke up he was scared because he didn't want to be affected nor controlled by subliminal messages.

There are 10's of ways - which are more subtle - that happen when he gets this close to a mental break. Rolling his eyes like a horse that is frightened, unable to handle social situations, being very paranoid about things that I touch that are his, being around me by himself and of course trouble mastering the English language.

*sigh* All I can say is, thank GOD that he is under the care of Dr. Psyche.

...all I got!
