The Hindi Counselling

Friday, my wife and I went to visit the stepson at the mental ward. The "doctor" met with all of us as well as the stepson's social worker. The "doctor" rolled her eyes a lot for some unknown reason... like this whole thing with the stepson is just a made up crap. About over that hindi freak.

We took him cigs. He spent the entire time making damn sure to piss everyone off by telling us all that he hated everyone that he was just going to bide his time until he got out and then he would leave our house and never come back because we are nothing to him and he hates me and he thinks that if his mom just leaves me, divorces me that she would be so much happier and he would become her son again otherwise she was nothing to him and he couldn't be kept longer than five days and no he wouldn't take a test because he was completely sane and sure he'll take the test if it will get him out of there quicker and no he isn't going to take a test because HE is the normal one and he's just biding his time and then he's outta there in five days because they can't hold him any longer because he is completely sane and doesn't NEED to take any tests and they should be testing his mom and I and they can't hold him longer than five days.

That was basically the jist of the meeting.

Calls from the Psyche Ward

Starting around 4:30 or so yesterday, the stepson has been calling the house, my wife's cell phone, and now my cellphone. He even called at 0530 this morning!

He called me on my cell this morning and I answered, "Hello, this is blahblah" and he immediately started yelling. So, I slowly walked into a phone office at my work and just let him rant. After about 4 minutes straight of him yelling, he stopped and asked if I was there.

I said, "Yup! But if you start yelling again, I'm just going to hang up and turn my cell phone off."

We had a short conversation with him accusing me of fabricating everything and that as soon as he got out he was going to do the same thing to me. I wished him good fortune with that pursuit.

He said that he was going to push the charges on me for raping his girlfriend. I told him good luck since she didn't say that I had raped her. So, he came back with, "What, are you calling my girlfriend behind my back now?" And I said, "She has not been your girlfriend since the summer of 2004. In fact, she refuses to even TALK to you at this point... so whatever. Do you dangest."

Then he asked why I was doing this to him. I told him because he was sick and needed help. He brought up that he saw this as his word against mine and he would win. So I responded with I would do this again and again until it worked because the alternative - kicking him out - would be a death warrant for him.

He hung up on me.

DONE!

Freakin FINALLY the sheriffs have come and picked up the stepson. Of course, his momma chicken'd out at the last minute and left while they did it. For a few seconds, I thought that I was going to have to make a mad dash to the house to assist. But, right as I was hitting the parking deck, they called back and said it was done.

Now we gotta pray and pray and pray that this works! The county has 48 hours to find what we have been seeing for more than a year. God, PLEASE help the person on the other end see with our eyes.

And Still

Even after repeatedly calling the local sheriff's office yesterday, they STILL haven't taken my stepson into custody. So, what does that mean for me? Yesterday, he broke the lock on the door to the computer room, stole the DSL wireless router, and we are assuming at this point that he burned it in the firepit that he has started up again.

*sigh*

This morning at 0700 hrs I called the sheriff's office again and BEGGED them to pick him up today.

Waiting On A Pincushion

Yesterday, a Sheriff's deputy called my cellphone and I had to tell him that I was not at the house and could not verify if the stepson was home. So, the deputy told me to call him back when we got back into town.

We arrived back at the house at about 4 pm or so yesterday and I tried calling him back. I got the jail and they told me that I needed to call this other number. So, I call that number and they told me to call the Transfer section. So I called THAT number and got a recording that said if I needed to talk with someone to call the second guy back. *rolling eyes*

No call from them yet today... and they have until tomorrow night at midnight - I'm assuming - complete the OTA per the court system.

We'll see! in the meantime, we have to sit around and wonder if this is going to work, or whether the stepson is going to take off before they serve the OTA, etc, etc. The stepson now has a hammer in his room at the side of his bed. Like he feels like he needs to protect himself from whomever at all times.

The OTA

Yesterday, my wife and I spent most of Valentine's day trying to first GET to our local Probate court and then finally writing out every possible thing that the stepson has done so that a judge could decide whether he should be committed. Or have an Order To Apprehend (OTA) taken out on him.

Basically, the sheriff's dept would arrive at the house and take the stepson into custody of the courts. They would then deliver him to the local county mental facility where he will be evualated for mental fitness for no more than 48 hours.

This is a very big risk because if he lies his way through it, then things could be much worse when he gets back to the house. However, we have literally tried every other way to get him help to no avail. Hopefully, this works out.

So the judge signed the OTA with no problems. Happy Valentine's Day.

Updating-ier

The stepson spent the weekend out. Just out. We don't know where, of course. Given his attitude today with his mom and I, I would have to guess that it was spent drinking.

When I got home from work, my wife was obviously upset. I finally got her to say that the stepson had answered the phone and it was our realtor. The stepson immediately told him that my wife was not home and hung up on him. *rolling eyes*

So I said, "What the fork!?" loud enough for him to hear behind his closed door at the back of the house. He came out and tried to act like nothing was wrong. So I said, "Son, you need to stop doing that." He said, "I don't know what you're talking about." *rolling eyes* There is no arguing with him about anything that requires logic of any kind because he is essentially not here anymore.

We took off and went to a local Mexican restaurant to drink and eat. While we were there, we decided that tomorrow - um, today? - is the day that we are going to probate court and try to have him committed. Enough, is enough, is enough.

So far, we have the following:
1) He thinks that his ex-girlfriend was at our house at some point. (She's never even BEEN to the house that we currently live in.)
2) He think that she took a warrant out for my arrest because I "raped" her and then dumped her somewhere else.
3) He thinks that he pays all of the bills at our house, including the mortgage. (One month's mortgage payment is more than money than he made in the entire year of 2006!)
4) He thinks that someone has put something into his head and his controlling his thoughts.
5) He thinks that he is being followed at all times.
6) He stole $500.00 out of our checking and now claims that he didn't do anything at all.
7) He leaves the house to walk around the block and doesn't return for days on end with no idea where he was.

I think that we'll win that shiite! And if we don't, then I'm kicking him to the curb. Tired of living in fear that I will come home from work and find my wife dead.

The Quiet Hours

and as things wind down to supper tonight, my wife and I are starting de-stepson the house. You know, hiding anything and everything that we might want to keep. *rolling eyes* And of course, now we have to worry about crap like any documents that might have an account number, not using email that he could possibly read at night while we sleep.

I asked my wife again today to find a legal document software program. I feel that it is becoming evident that someone other than the government might need the residuals of our estate in the case of our untimely demise.

Anyway, we are meeeting the stepson and his middle brother for supper this evening so that we can help plan the middle son's wedding to his brand new jewish Fiance' and to pick up the problem child.

Saturday's Slippery Slope

Saturday, the middle brother came over to the house to pick up my stepson for the weekend. He was visibly upset that his mom had not acknowledged his proposal to his girlfriend and attempted to wait on her to show back up from "the store". I told him that I didn't know how long she would be as I didn't even know what store she was at or what she was buying.

So, he called her and left a message saying that if she didn't say something to his new fiance' in the way of welcome to the family, then basically he was done with the family. My stepson was right htere in the thick of it opening his mouth and spouting off. So, after his brother hung up, he tried to call and left a very nasty message about being childish.

I was spitting nails by that time. The middle brother went out to the car. The youngest came back into the house and demaneded to know his mom was acting that way. I told him it was because of stress. He wanted to know what the stress was. Being mad, I just told him the truth. She and I were living in a hell of stress because he was sick and not right and needed to get help. He immediately said, "Well, I live with a rapist and you don't see ME acting this way!" So, we had it out verbally over that crap.

Eventually, I told him that if he felt so correct about me being a rapist that he should call the police and try to make something of it. He immediately agreed. Then I finished my sentence and said that if the cops showed up for any reason, he would be the one to leave and get committed because he was not thinking clearly. He yelled that I was a liar and left the house.

It took me a good 10 minutes to stop spitting nails.

My wife and I have decided that we should not put off creating legal wills because we cannot guarantee where this boy's mind is going to go next.

In the meantime, we are going to start the procedures for having him committed or "1013'd" which will give the government a right to take his rights away until he is better.

Seeing Red

An hour or so ago, I got really pissed off. Like, uncontrollably pissed off at my stepson. In fact, I realized as I was stomping around the house slamming doors that I was just HOPING that my stepson would step out in front of me so that I could just stomp his ass into floor. Luckily for him, he was not in the house at the time.

At any rate, I could not calm down after I returned to bed. I knew that I was keeping my wife awake because I probably scared her with my temper - which she has only seen once before in our life together. So, I got up, got dressed and retreated to my desk at work where everything is calm and I could be left alone to find some more patience.

The hard thing is that my 25 year old stepson is sick - mentally. He can barely function enough to keep from crapping in his own pants much less think about someone else and how his actions might be affecting them.

Tonight, he left the TV running in his room - one thin wall from our room. It was very loud and tuned to a basketball game.. then he promptly took off on foot down the road for a bit. By the time I had worked myself into a froth about it - enough to actually get up ready to break his neck for him - he had been gone for a couple of hours.

Of course, now I'm calm and feeling really stupid for getting so out of control. I guess that the stress of the situation is getting to me more than I would care to admit. *sigh*

So, here I sit at the office. By myself and hiding in my shame at blowing up over bull hockey.

Dear LORD give me the patience to see this to the end!

Psychiatrist - PSYCHE!

So, using contacts through NAMI, we were referred to a local family psychiatric clinic. I called them a couple of days ago and actually got an appointment with a real, bonafide Psychiatrist who specializes in adult Schizophrenia. The appointment was yesterday.

Remember,my stepson would not see a Psychiatrist because he is afraid that we are trying to have him committed. He did agree to seek family counselling with all three of us present, me, his mom, and him. He agreed to this because now I am the bad person here. The one that is programming the chip in his head and controlling his thoughts and actions. So, he's got his own agenda for having this counselling session.

We show up. Stepson sits completely on the other side of the waiting room from us. Then the doc calls us into his office. So, we all three go to his office and sit in various chairs with my wife and I sitting on the proverbial couch. I start off by saying, "I think that my stepson has some issues with me and his mom and wants to start things off."

The stepson gets a wild look in his eyes and says, "Oh yeah, I've got problems with my step dad. He raped my girlfriend which is why she left me. I have already opened the case with the police and they now have a warrant out for his arrest. Yeah, that's my issue."

The doc says, "You seem to be very agitated. Why are you acting so agitated?" and my stepson basically shut the heck up after that. So the doc asked if he would like to tell him about it on his own, without his parents in the room. He refused to be in the room without us there. So, the doc told him that he would like to talk with us without him in the room and asked him to step outside. The stepson said, "That's fine but you BETTER not be talking about me after I leave
the room!" and got up and went back to the waiting area.

The doc had a long conversation with my wife and I. We basically told him the sequence of events that had led up to today. He said that with only one exception, my stepson was definitely showing the classic signs of extreme paranoia and delusion. So we asked him what the sign was that he was NOT showing. He said that he was not showing the sign of being a danger to himself - suicidal - or to others - homicidal.

He did add that since I am now the bad guy here, that we should have a policy of zero tolerance for threats of any kind towards either one of us. If he threatened, we immediately got the cops involved.

He also recommended that we try to 1013 him - or have him committed by the state - because his paranoia was going to keep us from getting him help voluntarily. We needed to wait on doing this until he was at his lowest and showing the most signs of his condition.

Then our hour was up and he kicked us out but only charged us half of the usual fee. (What a guy)

So where are we now? Exactly where we were except now someone besides me has told his mom that we cannot, absolutely cannot force help onto the son. We could only do our best and if that wound up not being good enough, then we did do our bestest.

*sigh*
