Slip-slidin Away

Here's the catch-up:

A couple of weeks ago, the court-appointed psychologist/psychiatrist came to the house to diagnose the stepson. She was there about 5 minutes before she said that she had enough to arrive at a conclusion. (he! he!)

Now we are waiting on a court date.

In the meantime, things are slowly starting to slip back down into the psychotic break area for him. He is no longer worried about being clean, he is becoming more withdrawn from us, and locking the doors at night. It will not be long before he'll have to receive medical attention again.

Paperwork arrives

Last night, the sheriff's deputy finally showed up with the paperwork from the guardianship thing. We let the stepson stew over it for about 30 minutes or so in the carport. Then my wife headed out to talk with him about it.

Needless to say, he was upset. I snuck into the kitchen so that I could eavesdrop and make sure that no one got violent out there. Of course, he still thinks that he is not sick. He even made the comment that he had been in two places already and had been released with a clean bill of health. (Which of course we know is a lie.)

He was particularly upset that my name was on the document and that the document was in my handwriting. hehe

Time will tell!

Weekend

So this last weekend the oldest stepson came so that we could help him rebuild a fallen retaining wall at his rental house. While he was at our house, not once did the youngest come out of his room to talk with his brother. Then on Saturday night, we came home from eating supper and the oldest had brought home some food for the youngest. He immediately threw it away. I wound up running to Wendy's for his supper.

Yesterday, we wound up driving around for a bit, then watching a movie at one place then eating supper and then watching a second movie at a second theater. hehe. When we got back, the youngest stepson was sitting in the carport smoking his wood-chip "cigarette". I said, "Hey." He said nothing.

Then we came inside and he was looking in the cabinet for something to eat. I volunteered to go and get him something to eat. He refused.

STILL not right. Also, I have to wonder if the Sheriff's office showed up while we were out. Or perhaps it was just being left alone for that long set him back down a few steps in his paranoia.

Guardianship

So, I went and picked up the filled-in paperwork from the mental hospital. (The director of the mental health program was the one that signed them!!) Then I returned to work. I called the wife and told her that I had the paperwork. We made the plan to go to a local trivia game/supper and fill them in on Tuesday, June 26th, 2007.

When we were done with all we could do, I made a list on one of the papers that we would not have to turn in, of things that my wife needed to finish, like financial stuff, etc.

On Wednesday, June 27th, 2007, we went to probate court with paperwork and checque in hand. The lady at the court was much more helpful this time in getting things stated in just the right way so that the judge would take our side and allow the case to go forward.

The order of things to come are thusly;

1) Paperwork typed up and submitted by probate worker bee.
2) Judge starts case and gives copy of affidavit to Sheriff's office to deliver to the stepson.
3) A court appointed Psychologist visits son to evaluate him.
4) Court docket is assigned and everyone notified.
5) Stepson receives his free state-appointed lawyer.
6) Court date arrives.
