So, on Thursday, the social worker at the hospital called and gave us some advice. the advice was to go back to the court system and get Adult Guardianship over the stepson. Because he was refusing anymore meds and was getting very hostile about wanting out of there.
Since he was put there under a 1014 (Probate judge ordered evaluation) they could not keep him longer than seven days.
The wife and I rushed to probate court and got the paperwork started for this. We had to deliver part of the stack of paperwork to the doctors at the hospital so that they could fill it out. Which reminds me, I have to pick that whole thing up this morning! Anyway, when we arrived, I tried to get the social worker to come out to the guard desk and talk with us and get the paperwork. She asked us to come into the CSU unit where everyone, including the stepson, was at. I rolled my eyes and in we went.
Just as I suspected, the stepson went ballistic when he saw both of us there. He became very aggressive. I had to laugh on the inside at his fronting. I looked him in the eye and said, "We are not here to see you so back off." It didn't quiet him very long.
Anyway, so they released him on Friday, June 22, 2007 at 1000 hrs. Since he refused help from them and refused to call us, he was released to the street. His mom moped around all damn day feeling like she had lost her son. I told her that it would not take him long to call home and asked to be picked up. Sure enough, he called at 2200 hrs that night and asked to be picked up.
The weekend was very quiet since he spent most of the time hiding in his room.
I guess we'll see where this goes with the whole guardianship thing.
*sigh*

The Collared Psychologist
Through this whole ordeal of the stepson's latest crash, there has been a definite demon/God theme to his thoughts. So, we had asked our preacher, who is also a Psychologist, to help out. He responded very positively and then we didn't hear from again until Wednesday, June 20, 2007.
Well, TOO freaking late. The stepson has now been on medication for 5 days and almost back to normal. He is not going to talk with a stranger at this point.
The whole world would be saved if we had follow-thru.

SSI, The Shame of Georgia
Wife just called me and told me that the SSI representative at Grady, Ms Banks, was refusing to award the stepson with SSI insurance because he had only been hospitalized twice. Huh!?
I called into the unit and got a nurse on the phone and mentioned that whole thing. She said that she had seen a lady walk in and talk with him for less than one minute. *rolling eyes* I asked if she could let Dr. Short know about what was going on and to please have her call me back.
I called the wife back and told her what was going on. She called Ms. Banks back and asked her what was up, told her about the other THREE hospitals, etc. Ms. Banks said that she went and talked with Schizo-boy and asked him if he was disabled. DUH! Of course he's going to say he has nothing wrong with him.
What a stupid, inept government representative.
I guess I have to sic the Doctor on her. Screw it.

The Clothes Game and Other Tales
Over last weekend, June 16 & 17 2007, the nurses at Grady told us that they were having a real hard time keeping the stepson in clothes. He was refusing to keep them on. He was also very paranoid about having staff.
Talked with his doctor on Tuesday, June 19th, 2007. Her name is Dr. Short. She is reporting that she definitely sees his mental problems. She will be keeping him until Monday, June 25, 2007 and when she releases him, it will be with 30 days of meds plus THEY will make the appointment with an outpatient clinic and tell him that he has to keep it.
I asked for some slippers since his feet are so ate up from walking for hours barefooted. We purchased some from Target and took them down to him on Tuesday. Due to rain, ball game, and daily traffic, it took us 6 HOURS round trip.

Sheriff's Office Saves The Day
After the fiasco with the mobile crisis unit, I had to go to work that night. When I got back to the house at 0600 hrs I was really tired. I planned to get up at 0900 and call downtown and get the missing OTA found and served on that day.
While I slept, my wife had to deal with the son. At one point, I heard her calling out the front door asking him what he was doing. I didn't hear his response. Then she said, "You are standing in the street and naked! You need to come into the house. Where are your underwear?"
I got up.
She called the Sheriff's office around 0930 hrs and got a captain on the phone. She explained the seriousness of the situation and begged him to do something. at about 1200 hrs the sheriff arrived and hauled the stepson off to the main hospital for our county.
*long sigh*
We got a call on Saturday morning at 0300 from one of the workers at the hospital. Let me say that again, at 0300 hrs! That's 3 AM. They were asking what was going on with the son that got him there, etc. *rolling eyes*
We went on Sunday to visit the stepson and see what was being done for him. We took him some clothes. We arrived at about 1330 and they said he was too agitated to take visitors but they did take the clothes for him.
We left and went home for a bit. Then we took off around 5 to go to the apple store for a bit, ate a slow supper and then showed back up down there.
We found out the following:
1) They were seeing that he was have a schizophrenic episode.
2) They were only sedating him until they could get a bed available at GA Regional, their mental hospital system.
3) It could be days before that happens.
4) At least the staff at the main hospital, Grady were able to see the son like we had been seeing him for over a week.
More as it happens...

Mobile Crisis Unit: Invaluable tool or just invaluable?
So, the next day, Thursday, we called the crisis unit again because he was in a TERRIBLE state. They came out 4.5 HOURS later... at 11:45 pm. What a crock. Then they stood in the living room while I had a conversation with the stepson in the next room trying to get him to talk with them. Our conversation went sorta like this:
Me: You asked us two days ago to help you get the chip out of your head. These people can help you get that chip out of your head.
Him: No, UGA is responsible for putting it there and they are the only ones that can remove it. I'm going to have to have a operational procedure with them.
Me: It doesn't matter who put it there, these people can get it out of your head. At least give them
Him: Did you SEE that!?! (eyes rolling wildly in his head as he stares at the dryer door which had slowly closed on its own.)
Me: No, I didn't see anything.
Him: Someone is f**king with me. They are invisible and closing this door. (slams door closed) They better stop and stop now. (continues to freak out looking for invisible instigator.)
I step back into the living room where the psychologist and cop are at and said, "Did you just hear that conversation!?!?" They feigned like they didn't. I kicked them out.
What a waste of tax payer's money.

Commitments
Yesterday, my wife and I went to probate and got a judge to commit the stepson. Now the sheriff's office has 7 days to pick him up. Hopefully, this will go smoother than last night...
We were sitting around and the stepson kept walking into the room like he wanted to say something to us. He would then sit on the couch and watch TV with us, which he hasn't done in forever. We figured that he was hanging out with us because he is scared. (Same reason he sleeps with the bedroom light on and his door open!)
So, we pow-wowed and decided to try calling the crisis unit to see if they could have him picked up any faster than the sheriff's office. That's when we realized that we forgot to get a copy of the damn OTA that was signed by the judge. *triple sigh* Anyway, the crisis people wound up calling the police - which was just plain stupid. They couldn't do anything without the paperwork.
Luckily, the stepson is so confused and addle-brained that I just acted like the cops were there by mistake and he bought right into it

Crash! At last...
Finally! The stepson has crashed again. His oldest brother called him yesterday and was very brutal with him on the phone He yelled at him about getting a job and then when he refused to he yelled at him about owing him the money he owes for the help getting his car fixed.
Last night, I heard things a little too quiet in the kitchen, so I pulled the ol' getting-a-drink-of-water trick and stepped into the kitchen. The stepson scrambled with something on the island and I commented that my new workout regime was making me thirsty. He bought it. After I went back into the room, I thought that what I had seen him doing was writing a cheque.
So, I woke up my wife and asked her where our cheques were at. She said they were all in her purse which was in the living room. So, we both got up and went into the kitchen and living room. She asked her son what he was doing. He said that he was "making notes" and indeed was just making notes on a notepad that was about the shape of a cheque. *rolling eyes* SO, we went back to bed.
This morning, my wife called and said that he had just left the house 2 1/2 hours ago in his pajamas and she went into his room and found about 25 notes in his trash. They had stuff like, "You need to let me sleep! You are killing me! What, do you want me to die? Get out of my head you demon. Randall is in the bottom half and he is not letting me eat. You have to get out of my head because I have to get a job."
So, I called to a neighboring county's mental health hospital which is better than the ones in our county. They said that self-pay is very expensive and it would cost $1,200/day for him to stay there.
We also contacted our pastor who is also a Psychologist. I asked him if he wanted to take a stab with my stepson. He agreed immediately. My wife is supposed to deliver those notes to him - copies of them hopefully! so that he can understand what he is walking into.
If he fails, we will be committing him again. He needs help, serious help.
